A tint of glamour has added more spice to an already hot Panchayat election fervour in Bolangir district with the foray of a professional model, Priyanka Nanda into the politics arena.
A model and former Miss Photogenic, Priyanka is looking to make a seamless transition from the world of glamour to grass roots politics and rural development. She will fight for the position of Sarpanch in Chudapali gram panchayat of the district in the forthcoming three-tier elections to the Panchayati Raj bodies.
Speaking to OTV, Priyanka said, “Where I come from professionaly is a totally different space than politics. I was a qualified model and worked accordingly. But politics is a different field altogether.”
“I was educated outside Odisha and came to realise that facilities and opportunities in education field which are available so easily out of state is discerningly missing here especially in our rural belts. So I quit my job and came back to my native place to work for the people and the village,” said Priyanka.
“I am determined to make a difference here in my own village first. I have only one mission and it is 360 degree development of my village,” said a confident Priyanka.
Sweta Nanda, who is sister of Priyanka, said, “Our family supported her (Priyanka) decision in pursuing a carreer in politics as she wants to do something for all of us. I am sure she will win the seat and develop our village into a model.”
As per sources, Priyanka worked with a professional modelling agency in Bhopal prior to returing to her village. She has also won the Miss Photogenic title in a National level beauty pageant in 2015 and brought laurels for all.
