Vijay Deverakonda’s Bollywood movie Liger has flopped badly and as a result, the producers have been hugely affected financially. Even the Telugu version of Liger has not delivered the expected results. That is why Vijay has decided to return Rs 6 crores to Liger’s Telugu producer.
This failure has also affected the trust of the pair of Vijay and Puri Jagannadh who have already teamed up for yet another movie Jana Gana Mana to be produced by Charmee Kaur.
Interestingly, it is Charmee who earlier bankrolled the Telugu version of Liger. By returning Rs 6 crores, the Dear Comrade actor has owned up to the failure of Liger and has accepted responsibility for it to some level. Moreover, now Vijay has decided to let go of his salary for Jana Gana Mana. Even director Puri Jagannadh has also decided not to take any payment for this movie. However, the duo will retain some portion of the profit if the movie becomes a hit.
In the last few years, there has been a debate about whether the heroes should be given high fees even if the film flops badly at the box office or not. Recently even the Telugu film industry stopped work to take an overview of the situation and ensure proper distribution of the finances so that the losses incurred do not affect only the producers badly.
In Bollywood, post the Corona pandemic, the situation has unexpectedly changed with many big-budget movies failing badly. Be it Akshay Kumar’s Samrat Prithviraj, Ranbir Kapoor’s Shamshera or Ranveer Singh’s Jayesbhai Jordaar and 83, and Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha, all these were big-budget movies. Akshay, Ranveer, and Ranbir were paid in crores but the loss was borne by the production houses.
Vijay Deverakonda’s move can be an example for other stars and they can think of taking normal fees for the movies and expect a chunk of the profit if their movie becomes a big hit.
