Veteran actor Mukesh Khanna, who defined the superhero Shaktimaan for an entire generation (1997–2005), has repeatedly voiced his opposition to the idea of Ranveer Singh donning the cape in the upcoming cinematic adaptation. Khanna has clarified multiple times that he never officially endorsed Ranveer for the role, pointing to a mismatch in image and persona. However, in a surprising turn, Khanna has now suggested that Ranveer might still have a place in the film, but not as superhero Shaktimaan.

Ranveer Singh Rumours & Khanna’s Rejection
Buzz around Bollywood strongly hinted that Ranveer Singh, known for his high-energy performances and flamboyant personality, was being considered by the studio as the new Shaktimaan. But Khanna has firmly resisted the idea, reiterating that Shaktimaan is not just a superhero but a moral teacher, demanding an actor whose persona aligns with Indian cultural values and commands respect.
Even though Singh spent three hours in discussion with Khanna to convince him, the original Shaktimaan has stood his ground.
“I never said Ranveer Singh is Shaktimaan,” Khanna emphasised in an earlier clarification, calling the reports of his approval 'baseless'.
Ranveer Suitable to Play Tamraj Kilvish
During his recent interview with Filmygyan, when a fan urged him to let Ranveer Singh carry forward the superhero legacy, Khanna said, "You can’t change my mind. You like Ranveer Singh, and I like him too. We’ve sat and talked for three hours, and he’s a very energetic actor. But I have openly said to his face, 'You can play Tamraj Kilvish' (the story’s villain).
Khanna continued, "His face has a mischievous positivity. This actor, if you tell him to play Shaktimaan, you might enjoy it because he makes you dance, but you need someone mature enough to play Shaktimaan.”
He further added, "Maine kaha dekho, mereko Shaktimaan ke liye actor nahi chahiye, face bhi chahiye. Kahin na kahin real life mein agar aapki image galat hai, toh woh beech mein aati hai."
Khanna also revealed that fans have been warning him against Singh’s casting as the superhero.
Khanna said, "Kayi log mujhe Ranveer Singh ke liye bolte hai ki arrey sahab yeh nashedi ko Shaktimaan mat banana, humare bachpan ki yaadien khatam ho jaayengi."

Ranveer Singh as Tamraj Kilvish?
While Khanna has outright dismissed Singh as the superhero, he has offered him an alternative. The veteran actor believes Ranveer’s flamboyance, mischievous charm, and high-energy screen presence could make him an excellent fit for the role of 'Tamraj Kilvish, ' the dark and iconic villain of the Shaktimaan universe.
