Sonu Nigam has always been known to speak outright disregarding the outcome of his comments. From Bhushan Kumar to even big Bollywood stars Sonu has shown that he does not think twice when it comes to speaking bluntly. And that is why he has triggered many controversies and faced allegations.
FIR against Sonu Nigam
A day ago FIR was filed against Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam for making a controversial comment during his concert held on April 27 in Bengaluru. The FIR was filed by Karnataka Rakshana Vedike after Sonu Nigam during his recent live performance scolded a fan when he rudely asked the singer to sing a Kannada song. Things went wrong when the famous singer compared it to the terrorists behind Pahalgam attack.
Bhushan Kumar-Sonu Nigam fiasco
It was T- Series then owned by Gulshan Kumar who gave Sonu Nigam multiple opportunities and helped his voice to reach millions of Indians. Years later, things turned sour between him and Bhushan Kumar who now runs the company.
When the speculations and controversies around Sushant Singh Rajput were at their peak, even Sonu Nigam triggered his controversy by calling Bhushan Kumar a music mafia who snubs singers. He was later on badly slammed by Bhushan’s wife Divya Kumar Khosla and their online war of words attracted huge traction online.
When Sonu said singers are forced to give up royalties
Thanks to Lata Mangeshkar, singers also started getting royalties for the songs they sang. However, years ago Sonu Nigam triggered a controversy when he alleged that music companies force young singers and lyricists to sign no royalty contract. Even these singers with the hope of getting good opportunities and recognition sometime oblige to do the same.
Sonu Nigam and Azaan controversy
Sonu Nigam triggered controversy in 2017 when he criticised the use of loudspeakers at mosques for Azaan, a morning prayer performed in India. He called this forced religiousness and questioned why when earlier there was no such practice in Islam it is being performed now. While he received very little support from Bollywood the singer also received a lot of bashing on X (formerly Twitter).
Sonu once supported Radhe Maa
Sonu Nigam attracted wrath of many Hindu communities when he supported self-proclaimed godwoman Radhe Maa in 2015. He shared a series of tweets in her support and slammed those who condemned her attire. What’s more he also said that the allegations against the styling and clothes of Radhe Maa are due to gender biasedness and that even Naga Sadhus and Indian goddesses traditionally dressed in the same attire.
