The trend of boycotting Bollywood movies is gaining pace on social media platforms with each passing day. Recently, a large number of social media users started a trend of boycotting different Hindi movies including Shamshera, Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan. Though it is not yet proven if the boycott calls have any impact, all these movies have come down on their knees after bombing at the box office.
After being up in arms against these movies, now, the annoyed users have initiated yet another campaign calling out to boycott Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan's upcoming Vikram Vedha. Vikram Vedha is a remake of a Tamil crime thriller with the same title starring R Madhavan and Vijay Sethupati in the lead.
Meanwhile, several south movies are performing stupendously at the box office breaking the stereotypes. It won't be wrong to say that south-origin movies have lately taken over the Hindi belt outranking the big players in the league like Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar and Ranbir Kapoor.
While the media is abuzz with such boycott trends affecting the business of Hindi movies and the stardom of the actors alike, Arjun Kapoor recently opened up and expressed his thoughts on such trends. However, netizens brutally trolled the Half Girlfriend actor for his statements.
During an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Arjun said, “I think we made a mistake by being silent about it and that was our decency but people have started taking advantage of that. I think we made a mistake by thinking that ‘our work will speak for ourselves' and all these things matter."
Further, the popular Bollywood entertainment site quoted the Ek Villain Returns actor as saying, "You know you don't always need to get your hand dirty and you don't need to get into everything. But I guess we tolerated it a lot and now people have made this a habit."
Arjun went on to add that this matter must be taken up at a higher level for which the industry needs to come together. Moreover, he said, things have crossed the limits, which is unfair.
"We need to come together and do something about it very genuinely because what people write about us or the hashtags that trend, are far away from reality. Everybody has the right to express their opinion, it is a democratic country. You can't take the stand alone. There has to be a centralised decision by the community of the film industry and go against this," he said.
Speaking about the recent emergence of South movies, Arjun said that people across India have a perception that all films are doing well, which is not correct. "They are able to make certain decisions silently as they have a strong community. I think, we need to come together and take care of our industry first and become strong as filmmakers, make better films so that we can silence the negativity first to the work first. We will be in the best position when we come up with the best work. Problem is, our work has deteriorated which has given the chance to everyone."
"After the deteriorated work, when we come up with good projects, it is failing to catch the audience. Our bread and butter are eventually entertaining people thus connecting with the audience is vital. The negativity and buzzes will be down in comparison to the good work," the Gunday actor added.
Further, the actor said, the film industry needs to come together to deliver the best possible films with the best outcomes so that it can silence the negativity and no one can point a finger at it, which is the trickiest part.
Well, it seems Arjun Kapoor has a plan to take revenge on the trollers who play a major role in trending hashtags of boycotting Bollywood movies on social media platforms. Of course, such a plan of coming up with the best films could help to restore the lost charisma and glory of Hindi movies, which are fading away amid the bright shine of South movies.
