Odisha recorded a pass percentage of 97.8 per cent in the Class 10 exams, result of which was released by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) on Friday. Though the high pass percentage has made students ecstatic, a day after several students are worried over the prospects of admission into colleges for the next courses.
The State has around 6.3 lakh seats in Plus 2 colleges, ITIs and Diploma institutions. However, 6. 17 lakh students have passed in the Matric exam apart from 10,000 students from CBSE and ICSE boards.
Though the State used to witness a vacancy of around 1 lakh seats in Plus 2 colleges every year, the high pass percentage has left over 24, 000 students worried about their admission possibilities.

Besides, it has now created a fear of dropouts in remote areas where students may find it difficult to get a seat in nearby colleges.
"I may face difficulties in getting a seat in the colleges here as many students have passed this year. I have got C1 grade in Class 10, I am worried if I could get a seat," said a student, K Khusi who has cleared the Matric exam.
Meanwhile, it is believed that increasing seats in some selected collages might help accommodate the students.
"Apart from students taking Arts, Science and Commerce courses they can also take admission in ITIs, Skill India and vocational courses. Increasing 10 per cent seats locally, where thr demand is more, students can be accommodated so that they don't have to move to other districts," said an educationist, Sushant Das.
It is also believed that a possible seat shortage problem can be averted if the government adopts entrance test system for admissions and increase seats in some of the colleges.
