Ahead of the conduct of the Term 1 Examination of Class 10 and 12 students, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released an important notice.
In a latest circular, the Board has issued clarification regarding the difference between major and minor subjects. The clarification comes in the wake of some queries received by the Board after the date sheet of Term 1 Examinations of both Class 10 and 12 students were released recently.
“The classification of subjects has been done purely on administrative ground for the purpose of conduct of Term 1 Examinations. This has been done based on the number of candidates appearing in the subject and in no way reflects the importance of subjects as Major or Minor,” the CBSE circular read.

As per CBSE, the subjects placed in the date sheet of minor subjects includes Regional Languages, Applied Mathematics, and English Elective etc. Every subject is of equal importance from academic point of view.
All these subjects have been put under minor category for the purpose of administrative convenience in relation to the logistics required for the conduct of examinations.
“Further retreated that as per the scheme of studies and Curriculum of CBSE, all subjects in both the classes are having equal weightage and importance,” the circular added.
As per the date sheet released by the CBSE, the Class 10 exams for minor subjects will commence on November 17 with painting. The Class 12 exams will start from November 16 with Entrepreneurship and Beauty and Wellness.
While the Class 10 major subject exams will be held between November 30 and December 11, the Class 12 major exam will be conducted between December 1 and December 22, 2021.
