In a shocking incident, a young woman was allegedly gangraped by two men under the Sadar police limits in Jagatsingpur district.
According to sources, the 18-year-old was reportedly intercepted and sexually assaulted by twomen while she was on her way to attend a birthday celebration at a friend's house. The victim was admitted to the Jagatsinghpur District Headquarters Hospital in critical condition, sources added.
On being informed about the incident, the police formed three special teams to apprehend the accused. Search operations are underway at multiple locations. While one accused has been arrested so far, the other two remain at large.
“A friend of my daughter had come to my house. She invited my daughter to attend her birthday celebration. When my daughter was on her way to the birthday celebration, she was gangraped by two men,” alleged survivor’s father.
Jagatsinghpur SP and the local MLA visited the hospital to inquire about the health of the survivor. The SP assured that all the accused will be arrested soon.
“The police have formed three teams, and all the accused will be arrested soon. The girl who had called the survivor to her birthday party has been detained by the police,” said Amarendra Das, Jagatsinghpur MLA.
Meanwhile, the BJD has warned of a gherao of the SP's office if arrests are not made within 24 hours.
“The BJD will gherao the SP office if the accused are not arrested within 24 hours,” said BJD leader Priyabrata Mohapatra.
“In his FIR, the survivor’s father has alleged that two people have committed the crime. We have already identified the accused and one has been apprehended. The questioning is on, and the second one will be arrested today. Three teams headed by the Jagatsinghpur Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) have been formed,” Bhabani Shankar Udgata, Jagatsinghpur SP, said.
