A special Vigilance court in Sundargarh on Saturday convicted a woman police officer in a 14-year-old bribery case and sentenced her to rigorous imprisonment for two years.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on the convict, Budhuni Minz, a former sub-inspector of Mahila police station in Rourkela, who is presently posted at the office of Superintendent of Police, Keonjhar.
Failure to pay the fine will invite additional rigorous imprisonment for three months, the court said.

According to sources, Minz had been facing trial in the court of Sundargarh Special Judge in connection with a case filed against her at Sambalpur Vigilance police station in January, 2007.
She had allegedly received illegal gratification of Rs 5,000 from a person to facilitate the release of the latter’s parents on bail.
The court of the special vigilance judge, Sundargarh pronounced the verdict today and sentenced her to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of one year and pay a fine of Rs 5,000 for the offence under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
She was also convicted under Sections 13(1)(d) punishable U/s 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of two years and to pay a fine of Rs 5,000.
In case of default, she will have to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of three months. Both the sentences will run concurrently, the court ruled.
