Already on a mission mode to put a check on organised crimes in the Twin Cities, the Commissionerate Police on Tuesday busted a major bike lifting gang which was active in Cuttack.
The Malgodown police arrested 9 persons including five ‘receivers’ and recovered 32 stolen bikes from their possession. Addressing a presser in Cuttack, Twin City Police Commmissioner, Saumendra Priyadarshi, said today that a special drive is currently underway to nab the miscreants involved in lifting motorcycles- of various models- and other vehicles in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.
Giving details of Tuesday’s detection, Priyadarshi said, “The activities of the gang surfaced during the investigation of a case involving two of their members who tried to snatch a bike from a youth near Malgodown area recently. Later, the police rounded up two more miscreants. Afterwards, they managed to nab nine persons including five who had received the stolen bikes from the gang,” said Priyadarshi.

According to the Police Commissioner, so far, the Cuttack Urban Police District has been successful in recovering 157 motorcycles which had been stolen by various criminal gangs this year.
Priyadarshi said during an analysis of several loot, chain snatching and arms trafficking cases it was found that the criminals were using stolen bikes or vehicles to execute the crimes.
A majority of the arrested accused hail from Ganjam, Khordha, Puri and Angul districts.
The Police Commissioner informed that a special drive was launched following a series of four-wheeler vehicles’ theft. Police were able to round up the gang which would sell the stolen vehicles in scrap.
