The Vigilance officials on Wednesday arrested Sashi Bhusan Behera, posted as Revenue Inspector (RI) at Gandanali Revenue Circle under Hindol Tehasil in Dhenkanal district, on the charges of taking a bribe of Rs 60,000. Along with Behera, another private person has been arrested from his office chamber.
As per initial reports, the accused RI, along with the private person, had allegedly demanded the money from the complainant to furnish a favourable report in a mutation case.
It is alleged that the accused RI had demanded Rs 60,000 to process applications and furnish a favourable report in four mutation cases in favour of the complainant.
What Vigilance Officials Say
Despite several requests made by the complainant, the accused RI Sashi Bhusan Behera was not initiating his applications and demanding a bribe of Rs 15,000 for each mutation case and a total of Rs 60,000 to get his work done.
Finding no other way, the complainant reported the matter to Vigilance authorities, alleging harassment by the RI.
Based on the complaint filed, Vigilance sleuths today nabbed the accused RI while taking a bribe Rs 60,000 fromthe complainant through Bishnu Ballav Khatua (Private Person).
The entire bribe money Rs 60,000 has been recovered from the possession of both the accused persons, including RI Behera and Khatua.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at three locations linked to the RI in a disproportionate asset (DA) case.
