Odisha govt to reopen ex-minister Naba Das murder case and other 'heinous' past crimes

Naba Das Murder Case To Be Reopened

In what could unravel the mystery still surrounding the brutal assassination of former BJD leader and the then Health Minister Naba Das, the newly formed BJP government in Odisha is likely to go for reopening of the case.

Odisha Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan said that the incident in which Naba Das, who was a minister, was murdered in broad daylight cannot be taken lightly, reported TOI.

The report further stated that not only Naba Das' murder case, other heinous crimes includiing the assassination of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati, teacher Mamita Meher murder and others will be re-investigated.

It is pertinent to mention here that former health minister of the state, Naba Das was shot dead by a cop in Jharsuguda on January 29, 2023. The accused cop, Gopal Das is in judicial custody and the trial is on.

Jharsuguda MLA, Tankadhar Tripathy said, “People of the state were not satisfied over the way BJD government spun a story after the murder of cabinet minister and were demanding re-investigation. If Odisha Law Minister has made such comments, it is certainly welcoming as reinvestigation is required and people have the right to know the truth behind the minister’s killing.”

BJD MLA, Aswini Patra said, “There should be no doubt over Naba Das' murder as the investigation was conducted in the right way under the previous government led by Naveen Patnaik. Whether to reopen or not reopen is all subject to the provisions of the law.”
