In a major twist in the recovery of the body of missing taxi driver Bidyadhara Sahoo from Bhubaneswar’s Chandaka area, ongoing police investigations have revealed that he may have died by suicide while being held captive by ‘kidnappers’.
According to preliminary findings, Sahoo was allegedly involved in a large-scale job fraud racket. Reports suggest that he acted as a middleman, collecting huge sums of money from desperate job aspirants on the pretext of providing them employment.
On September 15, three youths allegedly kidnapped him and took him to Jajpur, demanding that he return the money collected through fraudulent means, sources added.
Unable to arrange the cash, Bidyadhara is suspected to have hanged himself from a ceiling fan inside the house where he was confined.
Investigators believe that the abductors, fearing exposure, later shifted his body and dumped it in Chandaka to mislead the police and create the impression of murder.
The case has also brought focus on a woman named Jyotsna, who police say is the mastermind behind the job fraud. She is accused of duping aspirants of over Rs 5 crore, while Bidyadhara allegedly acted as her associate. Jyotsna remains absconding, and her arrest is now a top priority for investigators.
Police further suspect that the three abductors are from Gajapati district. Search operations are on to trace them and piece together the exact sequence of events that led to Bidyadhara’s death.
