In a dramatic turn of events, notorious criminal Sunil Nahak from Kabisuryanagar was injured in a police encounter near the Pitatali-Chikiti road in Berhampur.
According to police sources, the encounter took place when Sunil allegedly tried to evade arrest.
The incident unfolded when a special police team, acting on a tip-off, attempted to apprehend Nahak who was reportedly on the move in the rural stretch of the area.
As per police reports, Nahak tried to flee and opened fire at the approaching officers, prompting the police to retaliate. During the brief encounter, he was shot and injured.
Following the incident, Nahak was immediately shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, where he is currently undergoing treatment under tight police security. His condition is stated to be stable.
Sunil Nahak was on the most-wanted list and had a long criminal history, including serious charges such as robbery, extortion and arms smuggling. He was allegedly linked with multiple criminal gangs and was known for his disruptive operations across the Berhampur region.
Police have intensified patrolling and launched further operations in the area to dismantle organised criminal networks. Further investigations are ongoing.
