Miscreants snatched a woman’s gold chain while she was offering prayers inside Lord Shiva Temple on the auspicious occasion of Kartika Purnima. The elderly woman, after participating in Boita Bandana (floating of toy boats), had been to the temple to offer prayers.
The incident was reported at the Shiva Temple at Nayapalli Behera Sahi in the capital city of Bhubaneswar.
“It was a 13gm gold chain and was gifted to me by my husband,” said the heartbroken woman.
“I had gone to the temple with my son to offer prayers on Kartika Purnima. First, we went to participate in the Boida Bandana before going to the temple. I was standing in the queue in the temple when the looters took advantage of the rush and snatched my chain,” alleged the elderly woman.
“My son tried to search for the looters but they disappeared in the crowd. I’m heartbroken so I have come to the police station to lodge a complaint. Never in my dream had I thought that I would be looted inside a temple,” she further stated.
Likewise, her son said, “We come across such reports every day in the news. However, we had never thought that it could happen to us. We have now lodged a complaint with Nayapalli police. We request the cops and the government to take stringent action against such looters so that no one else is looted like us.”
This comes a day after a woman was killed after being attacked by chain snatchers while she was on her way to a temple with her husband. The couple was on their way to Harirajpur from Bhubaneswar to offer prayers at Somnath Temple.
The chain snatchers chased and attacked them, leaving the woman critically injured after she fell off the bike. She was admitted to a hospital but eventually succumbed to her injuries. The rise in chain-snatching incidents has become a matter of serious concern in the state.
