A minor girl was allegedly raped in Malkangiri district, prompting police to launch an investigation after a formal complaint filed by the survivor’s family.
As per the complaint, the girl, a resident under Malkangiri Sadar police limits, had gone out on Sunday evening to attend a friend’s birthday celebration. However, she did not return home till late at night. Despite frantic efforts by her family to locate her, there was no trace of the girl.
Later that night, some locals spotted the girl along with a truck driver in a suspicious condition near Bija Ghat on the Malkangiri-Jeypore highway and immediately informed the police.
Acting swiftly, the police rescued the girl and placed her in a shelter home named Shakti Sadan. The truck driver was taken into custody for questioning. On Monday, the girl’s mother filed a written complaint at Malkangiri Adarsh Police Station, alleging rape.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC and the POCSO Act and have initiated a detailed investigation. Further action will be taken based on the medical report and statements recorded during the probe.
