Bolangir police on Friday busted an inter-state criminal gang involved in dacoity and other crimes in Odisha. Most of the members of the gang are from Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. As many as eight criminals of the gang have been arrested by Bolangir police.

A senior police official said that most of the members of the gang used to sell balloons and other plastic items by moving in several localities during the daytime. Later, they used to commit several crimes including robberies during evening and night hours.

The gang had unleashed terror among the local residents while the police officials were left clueless about the spurt in loot and other crimes. However, the gang was nabbed based on CCTV and IT surveillance.

A goldsmith from Barpali area, who was purchasing the stolen items and used to pay using digital wallet, has also been arrested.

“The gang was involved in a number of crimes in Patnagarh, Bolangir town and Khaprakhol areas. During festivals, the criminals were mostly active. Some members of the gang are absconding and everything will be clear after they are nabbed,” said a senior police official.
