Govind Sahu, who is the prime suspect in the disappearance of Kalahandi’s Sunshine School teacher Mamita Meher and arrested on Tuesday, has confessed to his crime during interrogation, informed Bolangir Police on Wednesday.
Based on the confession during the interrogation, Bolangir Police has detained three other persons including, Sahu’s associate Radhe, JCB driver and stadium clerk who allegedly helped him in burying Mamita’s body in the under-construction stadium near Government High School at Mahaling in Kalahandi.

Sahu, who is the president of the Sunshine School managing committee, during the interrogation told that the pit was dug on October 6 while he murdered Mamita inside his car bearing registration number- OD 08K 1002 on October 8 following a violent altercation with her. The car was earlier seized on October 14 and kept at Sindhikela Police Station in Bolangir. Police have recovered an anklet and a jar containing petrol from the vehicle.
Earlier on Tuesday, police and a forensic expert team with the help of earthmovers took more than two hours and dig a 10 feet deep pit to exhume a charred decomposed body from the stadium in the presence of a Magistrate. Some belongings recovered along with the body were identified to be of Mamita Mamita by her parents.
As per Mamita's father's statements, she went out to Mahaling from her village Jharni near Tureikela in Bolangir on October 8 after receiving a phone call. She boarded the lone bus Bajrangbali which commutes through the area and was received by Gobinda Sahu in a car near Sindhikela Chandatara. Both reportedly roam around the area in the car and also went for marketing, the CCTV footage of which is with the police.
However, she went missing thereafter. Though her parents made all efforts to contact her but failed. Her family also tried to lodge a missing complaint at Kegaon police station in Kalahandi but the police reportedly refused to take the complaint. Later, Sahu assured them that she would be traced with help from local MLA and minister Dibyashankar Mishra, Mamita’s father alleged.
