Several residents of Naharana area in Jagatsinghpur district have alleged that they were cheated of lakhs of rupees through a mobile application called HUGE App. According to the complainants, the app operated smoothly for nearly eight months, offering attractive returns and promotional gifts to gain the confidence of users.
Encouraged by initial profits, many villagers, including youths and women, invested their hard-earned money, hoping to earn higher returns. Some women even deposited funds received from their self-help groups into the app.
However, since August 20, the application has reportedly stopped functioning, leaving investors unable to log in or withdraw their money. This has led to widespread concern and frustration among the users.
Locals allege that the scheme lured them with small investment options promising large returns. With the app no longer accessible, they fear that their deposits may never be recovered.
“The app used to assign 5 tasks by paying Rs 15 to Rs 75. Similarly, it used to offer 10 assignments on payment of Rs 5500. People used to get Rs 20 paid for each assignment. In the Rs 16500 slab, you will get 15 tasks and get Rs 41 for each task. We have infused our money in it and cheated,” said a victim.
So far, neither the police nor any other agencies have issued a statement on the matter. The affected villagers have appealed for an investigation and action against those behind the alleged fraud.
