Cuttack woman’s suicide after killing stepson: Deceased’s husband arrested for abetment

A day after a woman allegedly hanged self after killing her toddler stepson, Madhupatna police in Cuttack on Tuesday arrested the deceased’s husband. 

Santosh Khuntia has been arrested in connection with the death of his wife Shilpi Das. He has been charged under Sections 306 and 302. 

The arrest was made on the basis of the complaint lodged by the family members of Shilpi, who was found hanging in her rented house at Sriram Nagar area under Madhupatna police limits in the city. 

She allegedly hanged self after killing her two-year-old stepson, Shivansu. 

Two separate complaints were registered at Madhupatna police station in connection with the deaths. The family members of Shilpi lodged a complaint alleging that she died after being tortured by her husband. On the other hand, Shilpi’s husband lodged a complaint against her for killing his son from his first marriage. 

On the basis of the complaint of Shilpi’s family, Santosh has been arrested. He will be produced in court today.

The police are inquiring into the case from various angles and waiting for the post-mortem report to establish the actual cause of death.

It is learnt that both Santosh and Shilpi were engineers by profession and working with private companies. Reports say Shilpi hanged self after being fed up with marital discord.
