Odisha Vigilance on Tuesday arrested Rama Chandra Mishra, Joint Commissioner Excise, Bhubaneswar after registering a disproportionate assets (DA) case. Mishra was arrested after simultaneous searches by Vigilance found that he had huge assets including six multi-storey buildings, two flats in Bhubaneswar and Bargarh.
Apart from this, 52 plots in the name of Mishra and his family, 230 grams of gold and bank deposit of Rs 22 lakh have also been found during the Vigilance raid conducted on Monday. Mishra also owns a non-functional rice mill and a farmhouse in Sonepur.

At least 10 teams of Odisha Vigilance comprising 10 DSPs, 15 Inspectors and other supporting staff had conducted the simultaneous searches on the properties linked to Mishra.
As per the Vigilance department, Rama Chandra Mishra entered into government service in 1988 as Sub-Inspector, Excise. After his training, he worked at different places in Odisha. Mishra was promoted to the rank of Inspector of Excise in 2009, as Excise Superintendent in 2018 and as Deputy Commissioner in 2021.
Mishra got his last promotion in 2024 as Joint Commissioner of Excise and was posted at Directorate Excise, IPICOL Tower, Bhubaneswar, informed the state Vigilance in a release.
