Commissionerate Police on Saturday claimed success in cracking the mystery surrounding the loot of cash from an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) of the State Bank of India (SBI) in Bhubaneswar by arresting two accused including a Bangladeshi national.
The miscreants had allegedly uprooted the ATM with the help of a stolen vehicle at Lingipur Housing Board Colony area under Dhauli police limits on April 5.
Of the two arrested accused, one hails from Kolkata and another is said to be a Bangladeshi national. Commissionerate Police said that four other criminals involved in the crime are still absconding.
It was for the first time that miscreants had looted cash by uprooting the ATM in Bhubaneswar. Around Rs 20-25 lakh was allegedly stolen from the ATM. The ATM was later dumped along the Daya river embankment.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the miscreants used a stolen vehicle to transport the ATM from the SBI kiosk. The vehicle belonging to a nursery was stolen the same night by the criminals involved in the loot of the ATM.
The robbers were successful in decamping with the ATM after dismantling some iron rods and disabling its network and ransacking CCTV cameras at the kiosk.
