A group of four robbers armed with guns ambushed a bank in Sundergarh district of Odisha in broad daylight and decamped with Rs 2.87 lakh cash on Tuesday.
The loot was reported at the Kandabahal branch of Utkal Grameen Bank under the Sadar police station limits in the district.
According to sources, the quartet came riding two motorcycles at around 2.30 pm and barged into the bank wielding guns. They held the staff at gunpoint and looted Rs 2.87 lakh from the strong room. They also snatched away the belongings of the bank staffers before making good their escape.

Narrating the incident, branch manager Nilakanta Kumar said, “The four youths suddenly entered the counter and threatened a woman staffer with a pistol. When I reached there, another youth pulled out a gun and pointed out at me. They threatened us to remain silent with our hands up.”
“The robbers snatched away our mobile phones and locked all out staff in a toilet. They threatened to shoot if anyone raises an alarm. They then asked the woman staffer to lead them to the strong room.”
The BM said the branch had a total cash of Rs 2,87,410 today and all the cash was looted by the robbers.
“Two among the robbers had face masks on them while the two others had not covered their face. They were communicating with each other in Hindi,” the Branch Manager added.
On being informed, officials from Sadar police station, sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) and Superintendent of Police (SP) Sagarika Nath arrived at the branch and launched an investigation into the matter.
