The Cuttack Municipal Commissioner (CMC) and Commissionerate Police on Thursday destroyed several quintals of adulterated ghee worth Rs 10 lakh near Sikharpur Gurudwar.
The adulterated food products were seized by the Malgodown and Chauliaganj Police following multiple raids six months ago. Six persons were also arrested in that connection.
CMC’s Health wing said the adulterated products were destroyed following the orders of a court.

“Any type of food product carries a 14-digit Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) number which certifies its standard. Though ‘not for consumption’ was written on the seized ghee packets, those were bearing the labels of Balaji Ghee which is consumed by people,” said an official of the CMC Health wing.
“These adulterated ghee packets have fake FSSAI logo and the units where the products were made did not have license. Even the products did not have manufacturing and expiry date. These are totally misbranded. We had filed an application in the court for destruction of the seized goods and accordingly today the products are being destroyed following the order of the court,” the official added.
ACP (Zone-1) Amarendra Panda said, “We are keeping a close vigil to check adulteration of foods in Cuttack. The crackdown will continue in coming days on the adulteration units.”
Notably, several adulterated food processing units had been unearthed during a series of crackdowns launched by the Commissionerate Police in Cuttack.
In November last year, deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Prateek Singh had informed that as many as 14 food adulteration units were detected in just two months time and goods and property worth Rs 4,40,10,000 were seized from the illegal units.
In August this year, the joint enforcement squad of Commissionerate Police and Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) had busted a fake Gutkha manufacturing unit in the city.
