Even though Odisha has been gradually improving in several parameters, including daily case count, test positivity rate and spread of Covid-19 infection, the unabated spike in fatalities due to the disease continues to haunt the State.
On Wednesday, the State Health Department reported deaths of as many as 65 patients who were tested positive for the virus. The total death cases in the State have now climbed up to 4,795. The State had recorded highest-ever 68 deaths on July 13.
Out of the total fatalities reported today, Khordha district including the capital city Bhubaneswar reported 20 deaths, almost one-third of the State's tally. Bargarh recorded 10 deaths followed by Sundargarh with 7 deaths, Puri 6, Nabarangpur 4 and Gajapati with 3 deaths.

Two each deaths were reported from Balasore, Ganjam, Jharsuguda, Kandhamal and Mayurbhanj districts and one each in Kalahandi, Jagatsinghpur, Dhenkanal, Bhadrak and Angul districts.
Meanwhile, the daily positive count stood at 2,074 today and continued to remain below 2K-mark for the last few days. Odisha had registered 1,993 positive cases on July 12 and 1,930 on July 13, respectively.
Of the fresh Covid-19 cases reported from the 30 districts, 1,192 are quarantine cases, while the rest 882 are local contact cases, said the Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department.
Khordha district reported the highest 443 cases in the last 24 hours, followed by Cuttack (283), Puri (133), Jajpur (120), Mayurbhanj (115), Balasore (115) and Bhadrak (110).
As many as 23 districts reported cases below 100 namely Jagatsinghpur (99), Dhenkanal (61), Angul (59), Kendrapada (58), Nayagarh (58), Sundargarh (56), Malkangiri (47), Keonjhar (46), Bargarh (38), Sambalpur (30), Kandhamal (19), Bolangir (17), Rayagada (16), Boudh (12), Nabarangpur (10), Koraput (10), Sonepur (9), Ganjam (5), Jharsuguda (5), Kalahandi (5), Nuapada (4), Deogarh (3), Gajapati (3),
With this, Odisha now has 22,860 active cases, while 9,18,041 people have recovered from the disease so far, including 2,641 on Tuesday.
The State has so far tested over 1,47,03,651 samples for Covid-19, including 62,410 in the last 24 hours. Odisha's positivity rate stands at 3.09 per cent.
