BJP National Vice-President and Member of Parliament Baijayant Panda arrived in Assam, ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled two-day visit to the state, as the party steps up organisational and electoral preparations for the forthcoming Assembly elections.

Panda, who has been reappointed as the Bharatiya Janata Party’s election in-charge for Assam, received a warm welcome from senior state leaders and party functionaries upon his arrival.

Grand Reception By State Leaders

Sources reported that on reaching Assam, Baijayant Panda was received by BJP Assam president Dilip Saikia, state organisation in-charge Harish Dwivedi, state minister Pijush Hazarika, and senior leader Kaushik Rai, among others.

Party office-bearers, MLAs, and workers greeted him with traditional Assamese honours. Notably, the BJP has once again entrusted Panda with responsibility for Assam ahead of elections scheduled to be held in March–April next year.

Continuity From 2021 Polls

Baijayant Panda had earlier served as the BJP’s election in-charge for Assam during the 2021 Assembly elections. Under his supervision, the party contested the polls and emerged with a single-party majority, retaining power in the state.

Along with Panda, the BJP has appointed Sunil Kumar Sharma, Leader of the Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, and former Union Minister Darshana Ben Jardosh as election co-in-charges for Assam. The appointments have come into immediate effect as part of the party’s formal organisational setup for the polls expected by April 2026.

PM Modi’s Assam Visit Today

Panda’s arrival comes amid Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day Assam visit beginning today.

According to the schedule, the Prime Minister will inaugurate multiple infrastructure projects in Guwahati. He is also slated to pay tribute to the martyrs of the Assam Movement and interact with party workers and members of the public during the visit.

The Prime Minister’s tour is being closely followed by the BJP’s organisational leadership, with senior functionaries present in the state to oversee arrangements and political coordination. The visit is expected to draw significant public and political attention in the run-up to the Assembly elections.
