At least four persons sustained critical injuries after the ambulance that was transporting them caught fire after hitting a truck in Balasore on Sunday. The mishap occurred at around 3:45 am on NH-16 near Mirigimundi.

As per initial reports, the ambulance was ferrying three patients from Basta to Balasore when the accident occurred.

Following the incident, the truck driver went absconding. Senior officials of Rupsa police station have started an investigation into the incident.

The driver of the ambulance is now undergoing treatment at Balasore while three others have been shifted to Cuttack.
