At just 17, Diya Suriya, daughter of star couple Suriya and Jyotika, has stepped on the footsteps of her parents and entered into the entertainment industry. However, she has chosen to walk a different path in cinema. Instead of acting, she has made her directorial debut with the film Leading Light, produced under her parents’ banner, 2D Entertainment.

Oscar Qualifying Run in Los Angeles
The film has already begun its Oscar qualifying run at the Regency Theatre in California, where it is being screened from September 26 to October 2. Leading Light is a docu-drama that focuses on the journeys of “Women Gaffers of Bollywood.”
Announcing the news on X (formerly Twitter), 2D Entertainment shared the poster with the caption, “#LeadingLight The untold stories of Women behind the scenes - A docu-drama that discusses the experiences of Women Gaffers of Bollywood. Screening for the ‘Oscar qualifying run’ at the Regency Theatre, LA, California. Congratulations, our dearest #DiyaSuriya, on this exceptional feat and on shedding light on the contributions of these hidden gems. Catch it on screens from Sept 26th to October 2nd at 12:00 PM Show. A Film Rooted in Real Stories
Diya’s debut comes soon after she completed her studies at the University of Southern California, USA. As mentioned on regencymovies.com, Leading Light is a “powerful 13-minute documentary that uncovers the rarely told narratives of women gaffers in Mumbai’s Bollywood film industry.”
Through personal interviews with three pioneering women, the film sheds light on their struggles and achievements while working in an industry where they are often the only women on set.

Giving Back Through Agaram Foundation
Beyond her artistic pursuits, Suriya and Jyotika's daughter Diya, along with her brother Dev, has been contributing regularly to social causes. The siblings have been donating their monthly pocket money to Chennai’s Agaram Foundation, supporting the ‘Maadham 300’ initiative. This effort has been helping underprivileged students pursue education for the past 15 years.
