Ranveer Singh sparks controversy after mimicking Rishab Shetty's Kantara scene, calls Daiva a ‘Female Ghost’; watch

The closing ceremony of IFFI 2025 in Goa brought filmmaker-actor Rishab Shetty and Bollywood star Ranveer Singh together on stage. What began as a warm exchange soon turned into a social media storm. While praising Rishab’s acclaimed performance in Kantara Chapter 1, Ranveer ended up igniting backlash online.

Ranveer’s On-Stage Recreation Goes Viral

A clip from the ceremony shows Ranveer enthusiastically recounting his theatre experience. He said, “I watched Kantara Chapter 1 in theatres, and Rishab, it was an outstanding performance, especially when the female ghost (Chamundi daiva) enters your body - that shot was amazing.”

He then imitated the intense climax scene, sending Rishab Shetty into laughter. Ranveer, caught up in the moment, also joked about joining Kantara 3, urging the audience to push the idea forward.

Netizens Call Out ‘Insensitive’ Remarks

The viral video didn’t sit well with many viewers, who felt Ranveer’s choice of words and mimicry were disrespectful to cultural sentiments and traditions associated with the daiva.

One user wrote, "Dear @RanveerOfficial you don't know the difference between God and Ghost ....Chavundi is Goddess not ghost . And you literally mocking on big stage.." (sic)

Another commented, "Bro Ranveer, you need to calm the F down. Your energy makes you say really silly things. Exactly the reason for the audience to loose focus from your brilliant acting skills and mock you more for this idiocy." (sic)

A third echoed similar sentiments: "Dear #RanveerSingh you don't know the difference between God and Ghost ....Chavundi is Goddess not ghost .. And you literally mocking on big stage.." (sic)

What stunned several others was Rishab Shetty’s utter stillness in the face of Ranveer Singh’s mockery.
