Ranveer Singh is riding high on the phenomenal success of his espionage thriller Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar. The film completed an extraordinary 75-day theatrical run on February 17- a rarity in today’s post-pandemic market, where most films witness front-loaded openings and rapid declines.

Even after its digital premiere on Netflix, the film continued to attract cinema-goers, underlining its remarkable staying power. Trade reports suggest it wrapped up its domestic run with an impressive ₹894.49 crore net and approximately 3.6 crore footfalls - cementing its status as one of the biggest box-office performers in recent times.

Yet, even amid this career high, turbulence seems to be brewing.

After Don 3, Another Exit?

Fans were already taken aback when Ranveer Singh exited Don 3, helmed by Farhan Akhtar. Now, fresh industry chatter suggests that yet another ambitious project has been scrapped. The film in question? The Hindi adaptation of the Tamil cult blockbuster Anniyan.

Revisiting a Cult Classic Or Not?

Originally released in 2005 and directed by S. Shankar, Anniyan emerged as one of Tamil cinema’s most successful ventures. Its dubbed versions in Hindi and Telugu enjoyed immense popularity across India, making the story widely familiar to audiences. Shankar had reportedly been hesitant about revisiting the material.

However, sources claim Ranveer’s enthusiasm played a key role in reviving discussions about a Hindi remake. The collaboration was said to have moved forward largely due to the actor’s interest. Now, insiders suggest the project has been quietly shelved.

Reports indicate that Ranveer may have reconsidered the idea, believing that the vigilante-superhero genre has recently become saturated, diminishing its novelty factor.

A String of Shelved Projects

If confirmed, this would mark the fourth major project linked to Ranveer to be dropped - following Rakshasa, Shaktimaan, and Don 3. While shelving films is not uncommon in Bollywood’s fluid development ecosystem, the pattern has certainly sparked conversation.
