Ragini MMS 3 in the works: Tamannaah Bhatia, Junaid Khan likely to lead Ekta Kapoor’s next?

Ekta Kapoor’s cult horror franchise is gearing up for another chapter - and this time, it may bring together a fresh and intriguing on-screen pairing. If reports are to be believed, Tamannaah Bhatia and Junaid Khan could headline the third instalment of Ragini MMS, marking their first collaboration.

Tamannaah and Junaid To Team Up For Ragini 3?

According to a report by Pinkvilla, “Tamannaah Bhatia and Junaid Khan are in talks to be a part of Ekta Kapoor’s upcoming film and is titled Ragini 3.”

The same report adds that Shashanka Ghosh, who directed the 2011 original, is expected to return to the director’s chair for the new chapter.

That said, the makers are yet to make an official announcement. 

A Directorial Shake-Up Delays the Project

The road to Ragini 3 hasn’t been entirely smooth. As per Variety India, the film’s production has hit a temporary pause following a change in leadership behind the camera. Sahir Raza, who was initially set to direct Ragini MMS 3, has exited the project owing to scheduling conflicts.

Currently working as a showrunner on a Netflix series, Sahir reportedly had to adhere to the streamer’s new mandate requiring daily on-set presence - a commitment that clashed with the film’s shoot timelines. With his departure, the team is now on the lookout for a new director.

Meanwhile, the film - now being referred to as Ragini 3 - is expected to shift tonally, moving away from its horror-erotica template and embracing a more supernatural narrative style.

Revisiting the Legacy of Ragini MMS

The franchise first made waves in 2011 with Rajkummar Rao and Kainaz Motivala leading the found-footage horror drama. Its sequel, Ragini MMS 2 (2014), starred Sunny Leone and gained immense popularity, thanks in part to the sensational track Baby Doll.

Industry chatter suggests that the makers are keen to recreate that pop-cultural moment - potentially with Tamannaah stepping into a glamorous musical number designed to echo the earlier film’s success.

Upcoming Projects: Tamannaah & Junaid’s Busy Slate

On the professional front, Tamannaah is preparing for VVAN: Force of the Forest, a mythology-inspired thriller co-starring Sidharth Malhotra. Directed by Deepak Mishra and Arunabh Kumar, the film is slated to release on May 15.
