The buzz surrounding Dhoom 4 has refused to slow down. Over the past few months, whispers of Ranbir Kapoor stepping into the slick, high-speed universe of Yash Raj Films’ action franchise have flooded social media. Names like Ayan Mukerji have also surfaced as possible creative forces behind the fourth instalment.

But while speculation accelerates, the film itself seems to be idling at the starting line.

The Real Picture!

According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, Kapoor hasn’t signed the project yet. More importantly, the foundation of the film - its script - is still incomplete. Insiders suggest the actor’s casting is far from confirmed and remains only a possibility at this point.

According to the report, a source very close to the project said that Ranbir is just an “idea” at the moment.

“Yash Raj doesn’t have a script for Dhoom 4. They have been brainstorming over it for thirteen years, ever since Dhoom 3 was released. Aditya Chopra has rejected over nine drafts of the script. He isn’t venturing into his banner’s most prestigious franchise until absolutely certain about the script…Not after War 2 and Mardaani 3,” the report quoted the close source as saying.

Ranbir Proceeding With Caution

For Ranbir Kapoor, the decision appears strictly script-driven. The actor is currently immersed in other ambitious projects and is reportedly unwilling to rush into another franchise without complete confidence.

“Right now he’s focussing entirely on Sanjay Bhansali’s Love & War and Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana. His last experience with Yash Raj, Shamshera, was a colossal disaster. He will only tread with utmost caution on that front," revealed the source.

After the setback of Shamshera, caution and clarity seem to guide his choices.

A Legacy Too Big to Gamble

Launched in 2004, Dhoom quickly became Bollywood’s most stylish action brand. The original film starred Abhishek Bachchan, Uday Chopra, Rimi Sen and Esha Deol, with John Abraham as the suave antagonist.

The franchise only grew bigger. Dhoom 2 featured Hrithik Roshan’s charismatic thief, while Dhoom 3 saw Aamir Khan play twin antagonists. Each chapter shattered box office records and expanded the scale of action storytelling in Hindi cinema.

Given that legacy, YRF appears determined not to compromise. Until the script meets expectations, Dhoom 4 will remain a work in progress rather than a greenlit spectacle.
