Sundergarh: Police on Wednesday arrested five persons for their alleged involvement in the murder of Rohit Verma, son of a leading jeweller in Sundergarh district on March 1.
Sundergarh SP Sagarika Nath said all the accused hailing from Bihar and Jharkhand and were nabbed with assistance of joint task force. Of the total five accused, two are receivers of stolen gold ornaments.
“We have recovered 300 grams of gold ornaments which were looted from Verma, Rs 2.70 cash, the murder weapon and live rounds of ammunition from the accused. Our investigation is still underway to find out the involvement of the inter-state criminals in other incidents of loot and dacoity,” said Nath.
Nath further informed that initially a case of robbery and murder was registered. Following the arrest of the accused, Sundergarh police will file a charge-sheet for dacoity and murder case.
According to Nath, the joint team was formed as the criminals were involved in number of loot and dacoity cases in several other States including Bihar and Jharkhand.
It is pertinent to mention here that the jeweller’s son Rohit Verma was shot dead by miscreants in front of his shop near Badagaon bus terminal in Sundergarh district on March 1.
Three bike-borne miscreants had fired two rounds at Verma moments after the latter arrived to open his shop in the morning. Another person, who tried to save Verma, had also sustained a bullet injury in the firing.
