Bhubaneswar: In a major breakthrough, the Enforcement Squad of Odisha CT and GST Wing has collected a whopping Rs 1 crore as penalty from one fraudulent GST registrant of Raruan in Mayurbhanj district for holding unaccounted stock of goods.
The registrants Minati Das Adhikari and her son Ritesh have been jointly running their business ranging from Tobacco manufacturing, brick manufacturing, supplies of cement, to MS rod and ceramic tiles at Raruan near Khitching area.
The enforcement units of Angul, Cuttack, Jajpur, Balasore and Baripada conducted a joint raid on August 13 at various firms namely - Shree Udyog, Shree Jagannath Traders, Omm Sai Industries, Sanjeev Kumar & Co, and unearthed huge quantities of unaccounted stocks.
This apart, a number of incriminating documents including 40-50 blank cheques belonging to other parties, computer hard disks have been recovered and seized from the business premises.
The enforcement wing further stated that Rs 1 crore has been collected as penalty under section 122 of the OGST Act from the concerned GST taxpayer for holding stock of goods not commensurating with the actual books of account maintained by the taxpayer.
Based on the evidences, involvement of other parties in the tax fraud is being investigated by the authorities.
It has also warned that other taxpayers who have been deliberately evading due tax to the government exchequer by resorting to fraudulent means are also under the scanner of CT and GST Enforcement Wings. Similar actions are likely to be undertaken against such taxpayers in the near future.
Commissioner of CT & GST Sushil Kumar Lohani has given clear instructions to the state GST authorities to firmly deal with the fraudsters. Accordingly, the Enforcement wing has increased its activities steadfastly in order to unearth tax-frauds in Odisha.
A number of fraudsters have also been arrested by the CT & GST Enforcement Wing in various raids conducted previously across the state.
