Cyclonic circulation to form over Bay of Bengal by Oct 10; check its impact on Odisha

A fresh cyclonic circulation is likely to form over the north Bay of Bengal by tomorrow, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar. However, the system is not expected to intensify significantly, the department said.

Despite this, thunderstorms with lightning and moderate rain are likely to continue in several parts of Odisha over the next few days.

The withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from Odisha, initially expected around October 15, may be delayed as weather conditions remain unfavourable for its retreat during the next five days.

The Met office said that gradual changes in wind direction could create favourable conditions for the monsoon to start withdrawing from western Odisha in the coming days.

Meanwhile, the Met office has issued a yellow warning for 24 districts, including Malkangiri, Koraput, Khordha, Puri, Cuttack, and Kendrapara, forecasting rain and lightning activity.

For October 10, a statewide yellow warning has been issued, cautioning residents of all districts to remain alert to possible thunderstorm and lightning occurrences.

The weather office has advised people to take precautions during thunderstorm activity and avoid sheltering under trees or near water bodies during lightning.
