A joyous wedding in Bhubaneswar recently took a shocking turn when thieves reportedly slipped into the venue disguised as members of the baraat. Blending effortlessly among guests, they allegedly made off with a bag containing the bride’s gift money - said to be ₹3.5 lakh in cash.

Now, a strikingly similar episode has surfaced from Jaipur, raising fresh concerns about security lapses at large celebrations.
Caught On Camera In Plain Sight
In a clip that is rapidly circulating online, the bride and groom are seen warmly greeting guests on stage. Amid the celebrations, a young man dressed entirely in black approaches from behind their chairs. Without drawing attention, he lifts a bag placed beside the couple and calmly walks away.
The newlyweds, engrossed in welcoming guests, appear unaware of what has just happened behind them.
Reports suggest the man posed either as a worker or a guest to avoid suspicion. The bag allegedly contained jewellery worth ₹4 lakh. Ironically, the entire episode was captured by a camera set up to record candid moments of the couple’s special day.
Viral Video Sparks Debate
While the authenticity and origin of the clip remain unverified, it was shared on X by Siddharth's Echelon and has since gained significant traction online. The incident has ignited conversations about wedding security and responsibility.
One user wrote, "This is exactly why there's always a senior trusted family member who sticks with the jewellery bag + all loose cash during weddings. Most crucial role!"
Another commented, "But nowadys it is difficult to find that trusted man for that job....as everybody in family, friends & family want's to enjoy and no one want's to do that boring and responsible job in a Marriage."
A third user observed, "Crowds, celebration and distraction are perfect cover for someone patient enough to blend in. Traditions about a trusted custodian exist for a reason, they are old lessons written by earlier losses."
A Growing Pattern?
With two similar cases surfacing within days - first in Bhubaneswar and now in Jaipur - the incidents serve as a reminder that grand celebrations can sometimes offer cover for calculated opportunists.
As wedding season continues, families may need to rethink traditional safeguards and security arrangements to prevent such brazen thefts.
