The Special Task Force (STF) of the Odisha Crime Branch on Wednesday claimed to have busted an inter-state gun smuggling racket following the arrest of two smugglers. The accused were arrested on charges of smuggling illegal arms on the outskirts of Bhadrak town. Prasant Bhoi, the SP of the Special Task Force, informed that the duo was intercepted near Ranital in Bhadrak and was found in possession of fire arms and magazines. Seven 9-mm automatic pistols, 7 rounds of ammunitions and magazines were confiscated from them and the smugglers were later arrested.

The STF is planning to move court seeking remand of the accused to elicit more information from them in connection with the gun racket.

As per reports, the accused used to smuggle the fire arms from Bihar and sell them out to criminals in Odisha. However, Police informed that an investigation is underway to ascertain whether the arms were manufactured in Bihar or in Odisha.
