India’s explosive opener Abhishek Sharma may currently be battling a health setback, but his presence alone appears to have stirred debate across the border. While uncertainty remains over his availability for the high-voltage clash against Pakistan, former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has sparked controversy with sharp remarks about the young batter’s technique and approach.
Speaking on a Pakistani television show, Amir described Abhishek as an overly aggressive player who relies heavily on attacking every delivery. In his assessment, such a high-risk style makes the Indian opener vulnerable to frequent failures. Amir suggested that although Abhishek can be destructive on his day, consistency remains a concern due to the nature of his game.

The ex-pacer also questioned Abhishek’s technical foundation, claiming he would reserve judgment until the batter proves himself against quality swing bowling. According to Amir, bowling into Abhishek’s body could be an effective strategy to restrict him, especially when conditions offer even slight movement.
Despite the criticism, Abhishek continues to work towards full fitness after struggling with a stomach ailment. He had missed India’s match against Namibia and was reportedly unwell during the game against the USA. The illness even required brief hospitalisation and led to a noticeable drop in weight. However, team management has not ruled him out of the upcoming encounter against Pakistan, leaving fans awaiting a final decision on his participation.
