Young ‘couple’ drowns in Brahmani River in Odisha; bodies recovered Photograph: (OTV)
Bodies of a young man and a woman were recovered near Sundargarh’s Biratola Temple under Chandiposh police limits after they reportedly drowned in the Brahmani River. According to preliminary information, both the deceased were residents of Rourkela.
While the bodies have been recovered and sent for autopsy, the circumstances under which the duo drowned remain unclear. While locals suspect the duo might have died by suicide by jumping into the river, others suspect something fishy in the case.
However, police are yet to ascertain the exact cause of the incident.

The matter came to the fore after residents noticed and immediately alerted the fire services and police. Following the information, rescue teams rushed to the spot and launched a search operation. After several hours of effort, the bodies of both victims were recovered from the river.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to determine the sequence of events leading to the drowning. Further details are awaited.
Just a few days back, on Dec 7, 2025, a minor girl met a watery grave while taking a bath in a pond at Chudangapur village under Sanakhemundi block in Ganjam district. Luckily, another girl, who happens to be a friend of the deceased, has been rescued. Both were Class 3 students.
