Woman, twin daughters critical after consuming poison in Odisha’s Malkangiri

A woman and her two young daughters are battling for their lives after allegedly consuming poison at Kateliguda in Malkangiri district on Sunday. All three have been admitted to the Malkangiri District Headquarters Hospital, where their condition is stated to be critical.

According to local sources, the family had been under severe emotional distress following the death of the woman’s husband a week ago. The husband had reportedly died after consuming poison, leaving the family devastated. The circumstances that led the mother and her daughters to take the same extreme step remain unclear, and police are trying to ascertain the reason behind the act.

Doctors at the hospital said they are providing all necessary medical support. 

“We received a woman and her twin daughters at around 8.30 pm. The trio has consumed yellow oleander seed. Their conditions are stable now, and they have been shifted to the general ward,” said a doctor attending them at the DHH.

Meanwhile, police have initiated an inquiry and are interacting with relatives and neighbours to understand the events that preceded the attempted suicide. Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
