In an apparent challenge to the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Twin City Commissionerate Police, unidentified assailants claimed two lives in one day at different locations and in separate cases in Bhubaneswar.
In one of the cases, a youth was stoned to death in the Infocity area. Similarly, an AIIMS employee was chased and shot dead. Both cases, however, took place in broad daylight and left behind a gruesome crime scene, leaving residents terrified.
Young Man Brutally Stoned To Death
The day began with a grisly killing near Chunukoili Basti, in the jurisdiction of Infocity police. A young man was reportedly stoned to death in what witnesses described as an extremely inhuman act. Residents who discovered the body were left horrified at the crime scene.
Police teams reached the site promptly and started the process to collect evidence, cordoning off the area for investigation. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, though authorities are examining possible rivalries and local disputes that may have escalated into lethal violence.
AIIMS Employee Shot Dead On Way To Work
Later in the morning, another daylight murder shocked the city. Sudhanshu Khuntia, a lab assistant at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, was ambushed and shot near Ransinghpur, under Khandagiri police limits, around 8 am while commuting to work on his two-wheeler.
Three bullets were fired at him, with one striking his lower left chest. He lost control of his vehicle and collapsed on the road. Locals rushed him to AIIMS, where he succumbed to his wounds.
The firing incident also sparked panic in the area, leading to knife fights and clashes between rival groups, prompting reinforcements from the police to prevent further escalation.
