Student killed, two injured as signboard collapses at school in Mayurbhanj

A major tragedy struck a government school in Badabhundu village under Tiring block of Mayurbhanj district on Friday, claiming the life of a student and leaving two others injured after a signboard collapsed on the school premises.

According to official sources, the incident occurred when a group of students were playing inside the school campus during the afternoon hours. A signboard erected in connection with the construction of a toilet within the school premises suddenly became unstable and fell, trapping three students beneath it. The sudden collapse left the children seriously injured and caused panic among students and staff present at the school.

Local residents and school authorities rushed to the spot and managed to rescue the injured students from under the debris. They were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment. However, one of the students succumbed to injuries, and doctors declared him dead on arrival. The other two injured students are currently undergoing treatment, and their condition is stated to be stable.

Police officials arrived at the scene soon after receiving the information and conducted a preliminary investigation. The body of the deceased student has been sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death. A detailed investigation has been initiated to determine whether negligence, improper installation, or inadequate safety measures contributed to the mishap.
