Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday conducted his 15th public grievance hearing, where around 1,000 citizens who had registered online were invited to present individual complaints, requests and welfare-related issues.
The hearing took place at the old government primary school in Unit-II, Bhubaneswar, marking the first such session since July 28.
Citizens Present Demands
According to sources, all participants had completed their registration on September 8. The Chief Minister heard complaints ranging from pension delays and land allotment to demands for modifications in housing benefits.
Citizens queued up early in the morning to present their cases, many of which were recorded directly by the CM and departmental representatives for follow-up.
One attendee from Dhenkanal, who was recently displaced following an eviction, expressed gratitude for receiving a pension of Rs 3,500.
"I came here from Dhenkanal and am very happy after meeting the Chief Minister. He heard my grievances. I thanked him for granting a pension amount of Rs 3,500. I asked him for allotting a lot and he assured me that he would look into my plea,” she said.
Grievances Will Be Addressed Through Action: Minister
State Minister for Forest, Environment and Climate Change, Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia, present at the grievance meet, said that all submissions were recorded carefully. He said the administration discussed these matters at the venue, with a focus on delivering solutions through actions rather than new declarations.
"The CM has noted down all the grievances. Some people here are requesting land instead of the provided housing. We held discussions in this regard. We will look to fulfil all the valid needs of people by taking proper action instead of announcing schemes,” he said.
The minister also remarked that the current government intends to address legitimate needs case by case, describing the hearing as an example of a “people’s CM” personally reviewing public requests.
The grievance hearings, initiated earlier in the year under the new government, are being positioned as a direct interface between citizens and top administrative decision-makers. With the latest session marking the 15th such event, officials said follow-up actions would proceed in coordination with respective departments based on written and recorded submissions.
Further hearings are expected to continue at intervals, as the government evaluates public response and the progress made on previous cases.
