An SSB jawan, identified as Sachitra Senapati, was arrested on Friday by Sahid Nagar Police in Bhubaneswar for allegedly cheating a retired police officer in a land fraud case.

The complaint was earlier filed by Surendra Chandra Bahubalendra, a retired officer who accused Sachitra of promising him land near Trisulia and swindling him of Rs 40 lakh.
Police say that after examining evidence, they arrested the jawan and produced him before the court later today. Sachitra, originally from Dhuleswar under Bayalish Mouza locality in Cuttack district, was previously deployed on duty at Naveen Niwas during the BJD-led government.
Investigators revealed that during his long tenure there, Sachitra allegedly cheated several people by posing as someone capable of arranging land deals. Victims also told police that he used intimidation when they demanded their money back, even threatening to kill the retired officer.
Police sources said Sachitra has not attended duty for over 18 months despite repeated notices and has since been suspended. With multiple complaints now emerging, police believe many more people may have been duped. Citizens who have faced similar fraud were urged to report it to their nearest police station.
This arrest follows a similar case where another SSB jawan, Biswaranjan Behera, was earlier arrested by the Crime Branch in the SI exam scam.
Notably, both jawans had served at Naveen Nivas.
“A detailed probe is underway. If he (Sachitra) has cheated anyone else and a complaint is made to the police in that connection, we will register a case against him and launch a probe,” ACP Zone 5, Biswaranjan Senapati, said.
