Six-member probe panel formed after woman falls from ICU bed at Cuttack SCB Medical

Authorities at the CuttackSCB Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday constituted a six-member inquiry committee following an incident in which a female patient reportedly fell from a bed in the Medicine ICU. The move comes amid concerns over patient safety and hospital protocol inside the intensive care unit.

According to official sources, the hospital administration has directed the committee to conduct a detailed investigation into the circumstances leading to the incident and submit its report at the earliest. Professor Dr. Saroj Tripathy, Head of the Department of Medicine, heads the panel.

Committee Includes 2 Associate & 2 Assistant Professors

The committee also includes two Associate Professors and two Assistant Professors, tasked with examining all aspects of the case, including supervision, safety measures, and adherence to ICU protocols.

In a significant administrative action, six nursing staff members posted in the Medicine ICU were removed from duty on Wednesday. Additionally, the ICU in charge has been relieved of responsibilities. In his place, Professor Dr. Jayant Panda from the Medicine Department has been assigned charge of the ICU.

Hospital authorities have stated that appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry report. The incident has sparked discussions about patient monitoring standards and accountability within critical care units at one of Odisha’s premier government medical institutions.
