Sambalpur pays tribute to Veer Surendra Sai on his birth anniversary (OTV)
The birth anniversaries of legendary freedom fighters Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Veer Surendra Sai were observed across the country on Friday with reverence and patriotic fervour. The occasion was marked by tribute ceremonies and commemorative programmes to honour their immense contributions to India’s freedom struggle.
In Sambalpur, the birth anniversary of Veer Surendra Sai was celebrated with enthusiasm and solemnity. The district administration organised a tribute ceremony at Jail Chowk, where floral garlands were offered at the statue of the freedom fighter. The event was attended by the District Collector, Commissioner and several eminent personalities. Cultural programmes highlighting his life and sacrifices were also organised on the occasion.
Special programmes were also held at Khinda, the birthplace of Veer Surendra Sai, to honour his legacy. The events included a Tiranga Padayatra and cultural performances reflecting the spirit of patriotism and sacrifice.
Speaking on the occasion, District Collector Siddheshwar Baliram Bondar said Sambalpur celebrated the birth anniversary of the legendary freedom fighter with great enthusiasm. He added that the Odisha government, particularly the Department of Tourism, has announced plans to develop Khinda as a tourist destination to commemorate and preserve Veer Surendra Sai’s legacy.
Meanwhile, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan arrived in Odisha on Thursday and proceeded directly to Cuttack to attend programmes marking the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, observed as Parakram Diwas.
The celebrations underscored the enduring legacy of Veer Surendra Sai and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, whose lives and ideals continue to inspire generations across the country.
