Sambalpur Court receives fresh bomb threat; security intensified

The Sambalpur Court in Odisha received a fresh bomb threat late on Sunday night, triggering an immediate security response and a comprehensive search operation across the court premises.

Senior police officials rushed to the court complex soon after the threat was reported. A police team, along with the bomb disposal squad and dog squad, reached the spot at around 11:00 pm and began an extensive inspection using sniffer dogs and metal detectors. Cyber Police personnel were also present during the operation.

The entry points, inner premises, equipment and other sections of the court complex were thoroughly searched late into the night.

Following the completion of the search operation, security arrangements were further intensified as a precautionary measure. Enhanced security is expected to remain in place until further notice.

Previous Threat Pattern Under Review

In light of earlier bomb threat incidents, police suspect that the latest threat may follow a similar pattern. The Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) and Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), along with Inspectors-in-Charge (IICs) of various police stations, were present at the court premises and carried out verification procedures.

However, authorities have not yet disclosed specific details regarding the source of the threat or the mode of communication. Further information is expected after the investigation is completed.

Court Proceedings Likely to Continue

Despite the threat, court proceedings are likely to continue as usual, although security arrangements have been significantly strengthened.

Notably, in early January, a bomb threat was received at the Sambalpur Court during the daytime. On that occasion, the Cuttack District Court had also received a similar threat. Previous threats were later found to be hoaxes, with no explosives detected at either location.
