Dissent within the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is growing sharper by the day following the party’s embarrassing loss in the Nuapada bypoll. The defeat has triggered a wave of frustration among leaders and grassroots workers, many of whom have taken to social media to openly express their discontent, setting off a new round of internal turmoil.

Prominent BJD leaders Elina Dash and Meera Parida have posted strong comments questioning the party’s current direction and internal decision-making processes. Adding to the escalating tension, Shreemayee Mishra has once again launched a scathing attack on the party leadership. Sharing posts of disgruntled workers, she wrote that “the flames of rebellion have started to burn fiercely within the BJD,” and questioned how many more suspensions the party plans to enforce to silence dissent.

In a veiled dig at VK Pandian, Shreemayee also raised issues related to the Palaspalli residence and foreign (US) trips. She alleged that after the electoral setback, members of ‘Team Virus’ are avoiding Sankha Bhawan, skipping reviews, and instead focusing on safeguarding themselves. She claimed that legal strategies are being prepared to shield certain individuals from accountability.

Elina Dash, in her post, remarked that the decline of the BJD began with the Dhamnagar bypoll. Despite clear warning signs, she said, no introspection was undertaken — ultimately leading to the Nuapada loss. She blamed a ‘group of loyalists’ for the crisis and prayed to Lord Jagannath to free the party from what she described as a ‘conspiratorial coterie group’.

Meera Parida, meanwhile, has questioned the behaviour of ‘self-declared arrogant’ leaders, further amplifying internal criticism.

As the unrest widens, the BJD’s official response to the allegations is still awaited.
