Paws, pride and playfulness: First-ever dog show held in Odisha’s Sonepur

For the first time in Subarnapur district, Sonepur witnessed a vibrant Dog Show on Sunday that brought together a variety of breeds from across the region. The event drew a large crowd as city residents flocked to witness the elegant and playful canines in action.

The dog show was organised at the Royal Ground in Sonepur town of the district.

Dog owners were visibly excited, proudly presenting their pets for different competitions and displays. Among the participants were even exotic breeds like German Shepherds, highlighting the diversity and enthusiasm for pet animals in Subarnapur.

Dog show not only celebrated the charm and abilities of these canines but also offered a platform for owners to interact, share experiences, and showcase training skills. The huge turnout underscored growing interest in pet culture in Sonepur and the surrounding areas.

“The dog show has been organised in Sonepur town for the first time. People could not know about it, hence the footfall is comparatively less. People are keeping pets here in large numbers, and the event must grow. I had brought three different species of dogs,” a young pet owner said to OTV when contacted.

“I am feeling immensely happy that the show has been organised for the first time. I had started keeping the animal a year ago and feeling happy to have brought the pet to show to others. I have named the dog ‘Shina’,” a woman pet owner stated.

“It belongs to the ‘Shih Tzu’ species. The dog keeps running after us at home. We used to make it sleep on our bed; hence, it is very affectionate. It is not aggressive and does not bark at anyone. The animal wakes up my daughter every morning,” the woman added.
