Odisha youth stabbed in Bargarh for refusing to pay extortion

Incidents of crime in Bargarh are reportedly on the rise, with yet another violent episode surfacing from the town. A hotel owner was allegedly stabbed by miscreants after he refused to pay extortion money, raising fresh concerns over law and order in the locality.

Allegations Of Extortion

 The victim, Nabakishore Dang, is the son of Uddhav Dang, owner of the well-known Bihari Hotel at Hatpada. According to allegations, a group of miscreants attacked Nabakishore with a knife after he declined to give in to their demand for ‘bati’ (extortion money).

 He sustained injuries in the attack and subsequently approached the Bargarh Town Police Station to lodge a complaint.

 The incident has sparked anxiety among local residents, especially as the same area had witnessed a violent group clash just a few days ago. In that earlier incident, two youths had lost their lives. Repeated incidents of violence in the locality have reportedly been linked to illegal liquor trade and associated disputes.

No Fear Of Police

 Nabakishore expressed concern over the lack of stringent action to curb such unlawful activities.

 “I own a hotel. The accused came to my hotel and tried to extort money. They even threatened my father. When I intervened, they attacked me with a knife. Crimes are rising because the accused are often drunk and out of their senses. They do not think about real life and attack anyone they want. They ask for money, and if you don’t give, they will attack you. Not just today, this has been going on for the last two years,” the victim revealed.

 As of now, no official statement has been issued by the police regarding the latest stabbing incident. Meanwhile, tension prevails in the area as residents demand stricter enforcement and improved security measures to prevent further violence.
